Aitihya – Reviving Bengal’s Heritage Through Handcrafted Innovation

By Rahul Roy

In a world rushing toward automation and fast fashion, thousands of skilled artisans across Bengal silently struggle to preserve centuries-old traditions of craft, weaving, and art—left behind in the digital race due to a lack of access to modern selling platforms—and that’s where Aitihya comes in: founded by me, Rahul Roy, a Bengali graphic designer and programmer, Aitihya.co.in is an e-commerce platform born to bring Bengal’s cultural heritage to the world by empowering artisans who are rich in skill but poor in opportunity; the word “Aitihya” means “heritage” in Bengali, and our mission is to preserve that by handling compliance for artisans without GST, showcasing authentic handcrafted products like jute bags from Birbhum, kantha stitch sarees from Bolpur, and terracotta jewelry from Bankura, sharing their stories, developing AR-based virtual previews, and building it all as students driven by change—not just marks; we started by visiting fairs like the West Bengal Khadi Mela, talking to artisans, handing out leaflets, and slowly building a district-wide artisan network, with plans to expand product categories, onboard 100+ artisans this year, launch Aitihya Originals—a brand blending tradition and modernity—and collaborate with government bodies to amplify impact; Aitihya is not just a site—it’s a cultural movement, a rebellion against erasure, and a pride project for every Bengali, so if you believe in supporting local and wearing stories, join the movement at Aitihya.co.in and help us revive our roots one handcrafted product at a time.
